About

The Isle of Wight Crematorium is based at Whippingham, East Cowes. It was opened in 1961 and is unique, for it is the only one on the island. The Bereavement Services Offices are located here and we are proud to hold Cremation Registers since its opening and burial records dating back to the 1800s.

Our staff pride themselves in respectfully helping people who are sadly faced with bereavement. We strive to be compassionately supportive, for it is a privilege and honour to be part of all processes. Our services include cremations, burials, scatterings and memorials.

CREMATIONS

In the first year of opening 308 cremations were carried out. Today, that number has increased to approximately 1,500 per year.

Services run every 45 minutes and we cater for all denominations. A full service allows for 25 minute content whereas a shorter service is a committal. Upon request longer services can also be arranged and our chapel is fitted with an induction loop too.

BURIALS

The Isle of Wight Council is responsible for maintaining 12 cemeteries on the island. We can accommodate both full burials and cremated remains interments.

Please contact our office to further discuss and arrange for Rights of Burials.

MEMORIALS

There are numerous options for you to remember your loved ones.

Permanent entries can be placed in our beautiful Books of Remembrance. These are housed internally and are opened daily throughout the year.

We are pleased to announce a new bespoke Wall of Hearts due to arrive soon.

Please contact our office to discuss other options available.

SCATTERINGS

There are 10 acres of woodland setting and it is hoped that visitors will find this a place for quiet contemplation and remembrance.

These Gardens of Remembrance consist of areas set aside for scattering cremated remains.

Please telephone to arrange an appointment.

Please feel rest assured that all services are carried out within the statutory legislation. We are committed to adhering to the Institute of Cemetery and Crematoria Management policies and guidelines for best practice. The ICCM represents its Corporate members at government level and their aim is to raise standards for the bereaved.

We work very closely with Funeral Directors to ensure loved ones wishes are carried out accordingly
